An elderly man in Florida was killed after an alleged dispute over music with a neighbor on Thanksgiving Day.

According to a press release from the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the man, named Hureleyon McLean, was shot and killed by his neighbor, who police detained. Law enforcement arrived on the scene at Lauderdale Lakes on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day, around 3:30 p.m. and found McLean with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McLean's wife, Rose McLean, told news outlets that her family was celebrating the holiday when their neighbor came to their apartment to complain about their loud music volume. The neighbor lived one floor down, and Hureleyon went to meet the neighbor to discuss the issue, but Rose claimed she heard a gunshot.

"He came up there to ring the doorbell and leave a message," said Rose. "He was just standing, looking at me with his gun in his hand. And I go up to him and say, 'Why did you shoot my husband? Why?' And he said to me, if I didn't shut my mouth, he would shoot me too."

The investigation is still ongoing, but police stated the neighbor has been cooperative and claimed he shot McLean in self-defense. Police also noted that the Broward County State Attorney's Office would decide if criminal charges would be filed against the neighbor.
